Behavioral Threat Assessment in Healthcare: Views from the Field
With over 70% of nonfatal US workplace violence occurring in the healthcare, with burnout contributing to alarming recruitment and retention issues, and with numerous legislative and regulatory requirements in process or recently enacted, the need for effective violence prevention solutions in healthcare is a at critical juncture. In this presentation, Dr. Lynn Van Male will discuss an evidence-based approach to illustrate how meaningful BTAM practice may be implemented in healthcare workplaces.
Dr. Lynn Van Male is the Senior Director of Threat Management for National Security Services at Kaiser Permanente, a past Second Vice President of the
Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (2017-2021), an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Oregon Health and Science University, and a private consultant. Predating her executive leadership positions, Dr. Van Male delivered direct patient care services focused on Posttraumatic Stress Disorder recovery. Dr. Van Male was an invited technical advisor to The Joint Commission in developing workplace violence prevention program requirements. Her violence prevention solutions for healthcare settings were published in 2016 in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
