This presentation will discuss lessons learned from the March 22, 2024, deadly school bus crash in Austin, Texas. This event initiated a mass casualty event spanning multiple hospitals and county response agencies. This presentation will discuss the implications and impact, of a major pediatric mass casualty event. Discussion will cover the initial response to the event, activation of emergency plans including Family Reunification Centers, and after effects upon hospital staff dealing with pediatric trauma patients.

Industrial Hygienist/Safety Officer, Texas Children’s Hosptial
Donald Denson graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Safety and Emergency Management and a Master of Science in Executive Fire Science with an emphasis on disaster management. Donald Denson also has a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University. Donald Denson served 14 years in the United States Army and is an Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran. During his time in the military, he worked in numerous roles in disaster response. Donald is the Safety Officer and Industrial Hygienist for Texas Children's Hospital in Austin, Texas.
